I just finished building a carbine - Olympic 16" target crown with A2 upper.  I like the short quick handleing but would like to mount optics.  I understand the concept of co-witnessing, but am unsure what type of optics and mount will work.  I see these "dog legs" or "gooseneck" mounts on gunbroker.com for $34.00 or so $ but will the co-witness?

Mounting optic ontop of the carry handle seems too high.

Also I bought the upper used with bolt, carrier,, and charging handle but cannot find any markings to tell me the wist rate.  I was told it is an Olympic Arms.  Can anyone help.

A forward goose-neck mount will cowitness, but I'm not sure I'd trust one that was too cheap.  With a design that hangs out front like that it is important to have a durable mount.

do you have an optic picked out?  I cowitnessed an eotech on my A2.  I used a gooseneck that was specially designed for use with the Eotech.  I too would stay away from the cheap ones.

If you want to use a rail, get a Daniel Defense or LaRue rail and mount directly to that.
