What is the purpose of a co-witness?
Does an absolute co-witness confirm zero of your red dot? Does the 1/3 co-witness give you the option of two different target distances? For instance, the red dot is sighted for 100yd and the BUIS is sighted for 50 yds?? I've been read a bunch of threads in the Optics FAQ forum, but I haven't come across an explanation of the purpose of a co-witness. Well outside of the fact that if your red dot fails you have the BUIS to turn to. In advance, thanks. |

you can confirm your zero with any cowitness. (1/3, perfect, upper 1/3 or whatever)
Co-witness gives you more more points of reference, and allows you to shoot w/ irons if your red dot goes down w/o removing it. lower 1/3 is preferred because it gets the irons slightly out of the way, Most shots will probably be taken with the dot centered, and the irons 'unused' and slightly below. |
