I'm getting ready to order a 6 position collapsible stock and its offered in a commercial or mil spec extension tube.  There is a slight price difference but the money part isn't the problem.   I'm not sure whats the difference and what one is better and what one to get.  my ? is whats the difference and is one better than the other.  I'm new to the AR platform so please don't get super technical about it ,just keep it simple and help explain it for a newbie.

There is essentially no difference. The commercial buffer tube is .02" larger in diameter and won't fit a mil-spec stock.

just so you know, the extension tube is what dictated how many positions the stock is, not the stock.

There is difference.
Your chances of getting a tight-fitting stock is greater if you go with mil-spec.

* from experience.

Be sure that the stock and the tube are the same type, whatever you get.
They don't interchange.
The interior dimensions are the same.

More stocks are offered in the Mil receiver extension size. Get the milspec size, commercial extensions are slowly being phased out from the looks of most retailers.

Agree with the earlier posts.  You will have more options with mil-spec.
