Part of the planning stages of this little project of mine is thinking about color. Thinking way back to the 60s and trying to remember the ARs/M16s I did see, a graayish green comes to mind. I know my RRA lower is black and will probably mis-match most any upper I  put it on. So if I decide to spray them for uniformity of color, is there any kind of guide to use to make that color right for that era (early to mid 60s)?

Sounds like what you need is the Refinishing Forum.

But you're not too far off asking your question in this thread either.

Colt had a couple of shades of gray they used off and on. Light gray and dark gray. Norrell's Molyresin is available in dark gray. This is the most commonly used color, outside the modern black. It's very easy to use. I've done two or three receivers and should have pics in the picture thread.

However, the M16A1 kit I purchased from CDNN has a funky shade to it. Almost like cosmoline (which this kit had plenty of - but not like an old mil-surp rifle) had changed the color some. I couldn't get a match with the stuff I have. It's close enough as I really don't want to spray the whole rifle, but it's not exact. You may run into this as well.

OK. Thanks. Seems like the grays have it. Ill take up any further procedural questions in the Refinishing section.
