Can someone please educate me as too the genuine Colt 3x20 AR15/M16 scopes that are out there?? History, where they fall as far as quality and price range for New or Like New.

I do not have enough bones saved for a Trijicon plus I do not think I could handle spending $600+ on a little itty bitty scope.

$250 is my limit.

Thanks

Also anyone know anything about a Colt 4x21 illuminated reticle scope for the AR??

The Colt 3x and later 4x scopes are ok, but nothing special.  I had both a 3x and a 4x back before flattop receivers came into being.  These Colt scopes mount to the carry handle.  I have no knowledge of the later illuminated reticle scope.  I bought a used 3x a few months ago for something in the $150.00 range for an SP1 I have.  They are of good quality, certainly better than the $39 Chinese junk knockoffs.  IMHO they are not as good as any Leupold, but they do work ok on a carry handle.  Watch-Six

As far as I know, all the Colt mini scopes were made by Hakko of Japan. the 3x20 and 4x20 models are older and were imported by Tasco. The 4x21 models are the newer ones imported by C-More. Eye relief is a little tight on all I have tried.

I have one of the 3x20 scopes on my wife's shorty, she likes it. It fits the carry handle tightly, and has decent optics. I'm not sure how well the drop compensator works......

Is there any reputable scope maker out there that does this type of scope currently?  I have a carry handle AR-15 and would like to do one, but the authentic Colt's are pricey (~$250) and regular scopes mount too high on the handle once you add a mount and rings.

Thanks
