The elevation cover screw on my Colt 4x20 scope is in there really tight and the "slot" is like none I've ever seen before.  What should I use to try and get it free?

Also, I've seen references to Hakka (sp?) as the manufacturer of these scopes but mine was "Inspected by Asahi Optical Japan" and it's marked "Made In Japan" and "AO-06  08".

I had always thought that Asahi Optcal made this scope.  Am I wrong?

Thanks!!

Could be Hakko made for Asahi or Asahi made for Hakko or ???  Hope someone can shed some light on this.

IIRC - there was a lot of consolidation of various optical Japanese optical companies post WWII.

If you look at the complete 1959 list (link below) you will note there is no Pentax.  At some point in the 1960s(?) Asahi became Asahi-Pentax.

Hakko generally made scopes for other companies.  The Colt scopes were one line.  They also made excellent airgun scopes for Bob Beeman and the original Beeman Precision up to the early 1990s - sold under the Beeman Blue Ribbon label.

from this list:  http://home.europa.com/~telscope/j-list.txt

Edited to add:  My Colt 4x is marked very faintly on the bottom of the tube behind the rear of the mount:  "JAPAN AO".

My Beeman SS-1 and SS-2 are marked on the windage knob with an "H" in a circle.

Will check and report on my other scopes as I find them.

Edited to add: " Armalite 2.75 x 20 mm" - AR180 scope in original box, plastic bag with  silica gel dessicant bag - no maker markings.  These are supposed to Hakko too.
