Hi everyone,
I am a AR newby and just pick up a NIB Colt 6520. I have a question, is all Colt AR's chambered for 5.56 even though it is stamped .223? |

Yup, the double marking is totally correct for Colt's tactical Cutie. This is the finest weapon you will ever own, resist the urge to screw around
with it. I've put a MIAD grip on mine, along with triji nite sights. That is enough. Later, you will own bigger, bolder, heavier, more outrageous AR rifles.....but this is the one you'll never forget. |

Out of the 18 that I currently own my bone stock 6520 is my favorite. |

Pround papa of two colt's ultimate k.i.s.s., both of mine..one from nov 07' and the other from dec 08' both have the lowers marked .223 and the barrels 5.56. You imho cant get any better of a stick for your first than a govt carbine!!! |

Thank for the info. I did not think to check the barrel, it is marked 5.56 NATO 1/7 (twist). I am a AR virgin (always played with M1 Garands, 1903A3, etc).
I don't plan on doing many mods. I thought about getting a front handguard rail so I can mount a light but that is about it. My next AR purchase will be something I can mod out while keeping the Colt stock. |

I run a SureFire G2LED in a VTAC on one of my 6520's, and it works great. Other than a white-light and quality sling - leave her alone and she'll treat you well! |

I thought about Magpul MOE hand guard. Any opinions? Why do you want them? I assume because of the way it looks. Keep the Colt original - the M4 handguards are superior to the MOE's. The OP doesn't say, but his 6520 might not have M4 handguards. Mine doesn't. |

The only change to my 6520 I made was to put a weapon light on it.
They represent the best things of the AR platform- light weight, excellent ergonomics, compact size, reliability, and reasonable accuracy. That said, I do wish Colt would make a flattop version of the 6520. I am sure someone will be along shortly to say "they did, but they only made four of them on a Tuesday and they sold them all to Inuits named Bob." Enjoy your rig. The 6520 is a peach. |

OK, now I'm confused. I'm new to all this and recently got a Colt HBar II. Lower is stamped .223, and barrel is marked 5.56. Which is it and what rounds are best (safe) to use? As said go by the barrel markings. As for "safe" to use, both are in your rifle. .223 is ok in 5.56. Not always so with 5.56 in .223. (5.56 is higher presure). |

Lowers and uppers can be swapped out in seconds, never just go by the lower go my the markings on the barrel for accurate ammo info. |
