Anyone have one?
What is the overall consensus on these.
All info would be appreciated.

Been looking into AR's, is there any reason not to get one. Have a lead on one.

Under the current  political cloud I would say if you want a AR
you will by what ever comes your way at a reasonable cost.

Its actually a trade. The trade offer seems to be bringing more opportunities.

Wondering about the 6520 in itself.

Pros:

It's a colt
Lightweight barrel
Some are preban ($$$ in later trade Ceterus parabus)

Con:
Fixed carry handle
Older ones have larger pivot pins / trigger pins (not a big deal)

Consensus is high quality, handy carbine that is only a stripped upper away from a 6720, which is one of colt's hottest selling models.  Buy

The 6520 is the perfect out of the box KISS light weight carbine.

I did not have a model 6520 but I had similar Colt lightweight barrel carbines with fixed carry handle upper receivers, my older model than that was my former 6420 Sporter II carbine and 6530 Sporter Lightweight which is the same as the 6520 except it had no bayonet lug and no collapsible buttstock, it had a fixed stock, I had my two carbines from 1985 up to 2004.

The earlier 6520 if I remember correctly had the Colt Fiberlite CAR stock which was smaller and lighter than the current M4 stock, later production have the M4 stock.

The 6520 had been discontinued about a year or two ago and was replaced with a flattop upper receiver 6720 AR-15A4 Lightweight LE carbine.

I like the lightweight feel of these lightweight carbines but if you like to use optics I would just skip it and go with the new flattop 6720.

If you like to use iron sights it would be great, just ad a light and sling and it's ready to go.

Only reason you shouldn't buy it is if you don't want a fixed carry handle. Otherwise, it's a great lightweight rifle.

I have one.  I bought it back in '10 for $850 new.  Only con is mine has the m4 feed ramps cut into the upper after anodizing.  No big deal though since I picked up a flat top for it a few months ago.  Only issue now is the fsb is not F marked.  I still got it sighted in at 50 yards with a troy buis though so no big deal.

IMO the 6720 style configuration is pretty much the perfect handy lightweight carbine.  No reason for a 6920 as a civilian, the extra barrel thickness ahead of the fsb and grenade launcher cut out is pointless.

Even with the fixed carry handle, there are plenty of mounting options for a red dot or you can have it as the perfect kiss rifle.

I was looking at getting one of these as well, and I heard they were decent rifles.  I want a Colt.  I tried to buy a Colt Sporter 16" the other day from a small shop.  It was supposed to be in stock today, but the owner called and told me that Colt put a stop on all shipping of AR's.  Good luck getting one, and I hope you have better luck than I did.  Also, can anyone tell me if that is true?  I have shot Colt's and a lot of other smaller brands.  The Colt's always operate and work better, plus the resale value is higher.  If you have the money, and you want the pony on the side, I advise you to get it.

Tell you whats happening.
I am offering a 81 93 H&K A2 98-99%  in  trade for a colt6920 or similar AR15, all at least mill spec with 1:7 barrel + cash
Many offers, with a few NIB colts, 6920 as well as 6520 as well as an M4.

The moment I ask what value they place on their Colts, they clam up, I have even mentioned to a couple how much I had mine listed for 4 days ago, before things got crazy.

The Gummint Carbine is really hard to beat for light weight and handiness.
Unless you are utterly determined to use optics, there is no reason not to get it.

I have a 6520 and love it . Very different feel compared to 6920 . The newer 6520's with standard size pins are a great lower if you want to pick up a flattop at some point in the future . Go for it ! flatfoot1217
