Hey all. Looking for a colt 6520. I googled and researched to no avail. Are these out of production? Sorry to beat a dead horse. Does anyone know where/if I can get one new? No need for pre-ban. Thanks in advance.

Ok, just learned they were discontinued in 2011. Does anyone know where one can be found or am I basically out of luck?

They get snapped up quickly on the secondary market.  Just keep looking as it's a PD favorite before flat tops were popular, and they tend to pop up in batches as they replace them out.   A couple years ago someone put east had a bunch that went CHEAP.

Out of curiosity why not get the 6720?

I have a new one (circa 2013) and it is a good gun.  Best of all it comes with standard size pins, so a Geissele I had went right in with no fuss.

I agree, why not just get a flattop model 6720, if you still want to use a detachable carry handle you could just attach it and remove it when using optics.

The good thing about the flattop is proper mounting of red dot and magnified optics if you decide to use them later on.

If you're set on getting the 6520 try to get the model made from mid 2009 and newer, they have the desirable small standard size hammer and trigger pins.

Thanks for all the replies. I looked at the 6720 too, but in the end I wanted the 6520 for its classic looks and simplicity. Are there any other Colt models with a 16" barrel and an A2 upper?

OP - the Colt 6520 is a classic lightweight rifle. To my eyes it's one of the finest ever produced. The design of the upper with the integrated handle sight makes it a few ounces lighter than the 6720.

I have a 6720 with the rail top upper receiver -  it too is lightweight, balanced, and handy. However, had the 6520 still been available at retail prices I'd have chosen it when I made the new Colt purchase in 2013.

Detachachable aluminum carry handles weigh 9 ounces. Adding one to a 6720 puts a weight burden on it that brings it up into the realm of every other AR carbine.  At present, my 6720 with a Magpul K grip, retro skinny A2 handguard, and upgraded Midwest Industries SPLP rear aperture sight, weighs 5.8 lbs. It's incredibly accurate, flawlessly built, and a joy to carry in the field and shoot.

Snug, I feel the same way you do about the 6520. Light, simple, nimble. I need it.

Like a week ago?  Yeah, I bought that about 1/2 hour after it was posted.

ETA:  The one posted yesterday has also sold. Gots to be quick with those.

Whoa, I better keep a closer eye I guess. Were either of them new?

The one I bought was used, but like new (complete for $510 shipped).  The other was used (looked excellent or better) for a bit more.  There was also a guy selling a new 6520 (whole rifle) for like $950 shipped.  That one is gone too. Almost picked it up, but did not need the lower (already have two complete 6520s).
