It may sound backwards, but I have a Colt lower with pinned mag well block that I want to use in 223.
Can I just push out the pins, remove the mag well block, replace the hammer and buffer and add a 223 upper? |

I believe the 9mm Colts sell for a higher price used than the standard 5.56 Colt units so your best move would be a trade instead of messing about. +1, if you just want the lower, you can make more money selling the complete 9mm and buying a 20" Colt. They are still pretty affordable being around $1000 and you wont have to have a 5.56 gun that has "9mm carbine" on it. That's just what I would do though. Or keep the 9mm because it is a great gun and buy another 5.56. |

ETA: Don't forget to change the mag catch! This is what I need, correct technical information. Thank you. My reason for keeping this lower is it is already a regestered SBR. I would go on to say that replacing the hammer with a neutered M16 hammer (aka a DPMS hammer) would be the way to go. That way you could switch back to 9mm if you wanted without doing anything but reinstalling the mag block (or getting one that is held in with setscrews). |
| I would think the other stuff like the hammer and buffer etc would be backward compatible with .223. I use a 9mm buffer in my LMT lower but it is not a SBR so check function first. Also, you could get a drop in mag block and still be able to shoot 9mm and .223 whenever, just swap uppers. Wes |
