I am thinking about picking up a like new Colt A2. The only thing on the receiver is AR-15 A2 GOV'T MODEL CAL 223 SER GS004XXX Is this a preban? What would be an approx value? Thanks! |

GS Serial number would place it around 86-88 or so, The GS prefix is a reasonably uncommon one, SUPPOSEDLY they stood for Govt Service. I have a later GS prefix "sporter" and it's been one of my ARs I've ever owned. Totally reliable and accurate. You won't be disappointed if you buy it and it is considered a "preban" in SOME states. For you it really means veryl ittle tho. does the one you are looking at have the steel block in the lower? Mine doesn't and I think that the GS series didn't have them. Thats only going on the few I have seen tho. $800-$1000 is fair, they are very nice rifles and far better then most brand new ones "out of the box" even if they are a few bucks less. |
They are referring to the lower receiver. If it is a slab-side receiver it will not have the fence around the magazine release & will have a two piece screw pivot pin instead of a push style pin. Slab-side is also a term for a upper receiver, but not in this case. The slab-side upper receiver will not have a forward assist assembly or the shell deflector. |
