Colt 6520:

mt6601?

I just bought a 6601 from my dealer. Said it was one of the last ones, don't ask for another. The Colt site has been updated with rifles if you look:

http://www.coltsmfg.com/Catalog/ColtRifles/MatchTarget.aspx

The page lists the 6700 which is A4 removable handle style. That looks like it in 20".

Care to share what is?

I believe that Colt isn't offering anything with A2 receivers anymore.

Not on the site linked above. Also note the absence of bayonet lugs and muzzle devices.

It should be noted that the site linked above is Colt's MFG, which is the civilian side of things. The LEO/mil operation is called Colt Defense, and the 6520 Government Carbine is still listed on the Colt Defense website. So I'd assume that it's still available through certain channels.

With the demise of the LE6920 and LE6940 from Colt Defense... being replaced with the civi sporters listed on that web site above, Im guessing the a2 carbine is going bye bye too.

Flat tops are all the rage now.  I just picked up a Colt Target for 800.00.  Im assuming it was so cheap cause it was an A-2.  It was labeled used but not much.  Im guessing less than 100 rounds went thro this cutie before I rescued her

Sounds like Colt is distancing itself from the public.

Large pins,

selling uppers and BCGs on their website.

Re-badging the 6920 as a sporter so they don't have the LEO markings that some bitched about

Beautiful rifle and a good deal! I for one love the A1 and A2s just as much (or more) than the carbine. Thinking of all the folks that would have passed that up....

Has the 6601 been discontinued?

As I posted above, that is what my dealer told me. I just got mine and I really truly love it. It's a very fine piece of hardware. Ive read online several places that the 6601 is gone... and given the other models apparently getting the axe, I believe it.

I have a funny feeling we'll be seeing colt going with that new modular receiver in the near future.. the one that can be 223 or 308. I think the new 901 is the first of those to test the waters...

I guess time will tell...

Just ordered the 6601 from Bud's  on Sunday. Have a new Colt A2 barrel assembly ready to install. Just a precaution in case Colt really is dropping it.

COLT  6550  ARE MORE RARE THAN THE 6600 HEAVY BARREL . AT THE TIME THAT WAS THE CLOSEST  MODEL TO THE COLT M16A2  IN SEMI AUTO THAT COULD BE BOUGHT.  THE 6550 AND  6551 ARE GOVNT  PROFILE BARRELS . NICE GUN! $1300 $ 1400  OR MAYBE MORE !

I believe colt is not making them anymore, but this decision was recent enough that suppliers may still have them in stock.

Also, Colt A2's are so unpopular, that you can often get them CHEAP. I got a 6551 in nearly new condition for 750 a year ago, and a member here recently got one for 600. HBARs are less popular than A2's. There is hope.
