Just got a pair of Colt A2 handguards from another member here, but they will not fit on my Colt A2 upper rebuild. The barrel is a Colt 1:7 Hbar with the triangular style handguard cap which doesn't accomodate these handguards at all. Did Colt start making a round handguard cap at some point in time? Seems like I recall something along this line from my past Colt AR days, but its been so damn long I'm not sure. If so, does anyone have a pair that will fit or the old Lone Star Ordnance handguards made specifically for the triangular handguard cap?
HELP please! |
| You guys are right. For some reason I was thinking that all the plastic protusions at the end of the handguard had to fit underneath the cap. I've installed enough handguards in past decades that I should've known better, but was being too damn impatient and had a brain fart, lol. All is well as the problem was merely a figment of my imagination. Still having problems getting the top one snapped into place, but from past experience that should be solved with an extra pair of hands. |

I finally invested in a AR handguard removal tool - especially w/a brand new rifle...that slip ring is harder than hell to compress and keep compressed. It's paid for itself countless times + I don't have the frustration of screwing with it by hand over and over anymore

http://www.creedmoorsports.com/store/images/detailed/d_191.jpg my $0.02 Sakic #19 What's that handguard tool run for out of curiousity and who carries it? I will probably build some more Colt uppers soon and it may come in handy. Edit: Looks like A Creedmoor Sports store item now that the link url is visible. Never heard of them, but that doesn't mean anything being as I have been out of the AR scene for awhile. |

This board has been invaluable to me since returning to it after a 4 or 5 year hiatus. So long ago I don't even remember my old username or password so I just started fresh even though I had perfect feedback previously. |

Cheers, Sakic #19 Thanks! That tool would definitely be worth the cost if building or otherwise working on ARs. I wonder if it would also work on AR-10s though...one way to find out I reckon. |

A large pair of channel locks with rubberized handles works just as good as the handguard removal tool and you probably already have a pair in the garage I actually don't, in both cases, i.e., the garage or channel locks, but the latter is easy enough to borrow from a neighboring bunker owner I reckon. |
