Looking at preban colt SP1 Sporter...FFL has the original owners receipt to go with the sale,,,,,BUT

The barrel shows no marking !!!!!

Colt says it should be a 1:12 twist,,,,I thought all colt barrels were marked

Thanks
Joe

Thought so also myself. Just bought a SP1 myself, it's marked on the BBL in the usual place.

My reference states that there were 18,000 barrels made by Winchester for Colt that weren't stamped but it's not clear whether these went to M-16s or civy AR-15s.  It does say that these were 1/14 twist, and that when they went to 1/12, barrels so-marked, and were stamped from then on.The same reference states that there were no SPs made with 1/14 twist. How about the barrel born-on date under the handguard and just fwd of the receiver?  Should read mm/yy.

Look for the barrel stamp on the bottom between the front site base rings. May be an "O" stamp.

Good luck!
