This is a question for the Colt smart guys out there. I have been wondering for awhile now, without ever really checking dimensions, are the front sight towers and/or front sight heights different for barrels used on factory assembled carbine A2 uppers and M4 flat top uppers? All of the factory assembled M4 and 6721 flat top uppers both 14.5" and 16" that I've seen have a "F" stamped on the left side of the front sight tower in front of the roll pin hole for the gas tube. Does the "F" designate a different front sight tower for use with flat top receivers? Thanks in advance, your knowledge is greatly appreciated. |

According to some the "F" does designate the front sight tower as one that should be used with the M4 flat top reciever. And I think it might have even came out from a Colt rep. However I did a measurement sample a few years back between Colt front sight bases and the "F" marked tower was only .020" lower in the front sight channel than my R6001 made back in the early 80's. My Colt samples varied from a 60's made M16 barrel all the way to the M4 "F" marked barrel from the 90's. |
