Just wondering if anyone else wants another Colt like me, and is gonna spend some money next year on one of these - skip to about 3:40 Link Long_Live_Don, That's exactly what I was looking for from the last big AZ show this year but the only company that stood to have them wasn't there!!! All I needed was the upper and I was ready to go! What a bummer. I can only hope Model 1 Sales will be there next year. In the mean time I got/purchased another version of a different type (not the commando type) from Double Star rifles. I always liked the commandos out of all my versions. Good luck to you getting yours in the future. Impala |

I don't get it. Might as well run around with a 16" rifle if that was the case. Its the correct and original barrel length for the carbine gas system. No, what I don't get is the long flash hider. It defeats the purpose of the Commando. You're not gaining anything by adding it on hence my 16" rifle comment. But if it makes you feel like you're toting around the real thing then go for it. ETA: ~11" + pinned ~5" flash hider = 16" rifle (yes I know the actual barrel itself is short) Still, you're running around with a 16" (length wise) rifle. |

It lets Colt fans in anti-NFA states own a real deal Colt Commando lower. -and- It lets you have a Colt Commando in your hands, cash and carry, ready to go, which you can then SBR on a Form 1 at your leisure... as opposed to waiting 6+ months to take possession of it on a Form 4. |

Colt should actually make a new production retro 20" A1 and XM177 Commando. I'd love to own an A1. Watching SWAT on TV as a kid in the 1970's is what started my black rifle disease. THis. There was a big thumbs down on the retro forum regarding their 'retro' models. |

Ah true that.. It's kind of a stretch, but it is the way I would go if I were in the market for a factory SBR. While you're waiting for the form 1 to come back you can still train with it in its 16" config and grow familiar with the weapon. When your form 1 comes back just send the upper off to Adco and have them safely remove the permanently attached 5" flash hider and then install the muzzle device of your choice. |

I like the M4 Commando roll mark of the lower but I wish that they have a different upper receiver like an A1/ C7 type, old school original CAR small diameter handguards and Fiberlite CAR buttstock.
That is what reminds me of my first carbine which was my 6420 AR-15A2 Sporter II Carbine which I got new in '85 when they were first released. |

The original barrel length for the carbine gas system was 10" on the R607 SMG. It was used in SEA as the XM177 and XM177E1 and found wanting. As such, an inch and a half was added to the barrel length producing the 11.5" barrel of the XM177E2, which the "Commando" is roughly supposed to "replicate." That 11.5" is "correct" is an opinion - and that it is "original" is simply false. ~Augee |
