I'm fairly new to the world of ARs (was inspired by Jim Zumbo's comments, actually).
I came by a Colt AR-15 (how is a long story), and, after checking the blue book, I couldn't determine what model it was.  I called Colt with the ser # (CH00XXXX), and they said that it was a 1991 manufacture, with a model number the representative had never heard of: r-6701LE.

I managed to find r-6701 in the blue book, and it appears that it was one of 2000 "enhanced" r-6700s made by the Colt Custom Shop.  It has the features of an r6700 (1:9 Hbar, quick detach handle w/ 600 m sighting system, weaver rail flat top, forward assist, brass deflector, no bayonet lug), but with custom work done on the barrel and trigger by Colt.

Blue book values it at $1650 at 98%.

I have a few questions, and if anyone knows the answers, I'd love to hear them:
1) What does the "LE" stand for?  Limited Edition, maybe?
2) What custom barrel and trigger work were done by Colt on the 6701s?
3) The only 6701 I could locate for sale on the internet was going for $2100.  Most Colts I see on this site go for the $1000-1200 range.  The blue book says $1650.  If I were to sell this gun (or, more likely, trade it for a less expensive AR and cash), how should I price it?

Thanks for the help, fellas.

Here is the only photo I have so far (hope to take more useful/detailed closeups later):

Hmmm. That's a toughie. Sounds like a really rare variation. Technically, its value might be somewhere between the two quoted amounts - maybe $1700-1800? But... the things really only worth what someone's willing to pay for it. On this sight, I really doubt it'd go for more than $1500. It might bring a higher amount if you sell it on an auction site, and include lots of detailed pictures. That way, the market will naturally set the real value. You can always list it with a reserve price of $1300 or so and see what kind of interest it generates. Sounds like a nice, interesting Colt; wish I had the scratch to buy it from you!

I edited in a link to a photo in the original post.  I'll add to it as I take more pics.

1) I would think "Limited Edition" would be perfectly reasonable as the suffix.  The only other use of "LE" I've heard of is the post-94 "Law Enforcement" prefix used by Colt.

2) The small amount of information I have on the R6701 does not mention custom trigger or barrel work

3) No clue

Well I don't have any real info beyond the basic setup and the limited edition nature of the weapon.  If you're in possession of the weapon would it be possible to effectively look under the hood and see if you see a difference?

I've got her in pieces on the floor right now, but having never owned an AR before, I wouldn't know the differences if they jumped up and bit me.  h.gif

Hehe, well then I have to say that this is all worthless without pics.  Any possibility?

Absolutely.  My camera is on loan right now, but hopefully I can get some up by this weekend.  Any specific shots that would be helpful?  Do you need the trigger group removed and photographed, or just the upper and the barrel?

I'm not an expert on internals, but I would think that as much detail as can be offered and any markings of any sort would be helpful.
