What improvements did Colt make to their newly-enhanced telestocks? Are they any better than their predecessors? I have a registered Colt M16 conversion in transfer, and have already bought a Colt 14.5" M4 upper for it. Everything is Colt so far, and I'd really like to keep it that way. I've been tossing around the notion of a Magpul or Vltor for awhile now, but would probably go with the new Colt as long as it wasn't a POS. Any opinions? Thanks. |

It's a far more comfortable design than the old style, which hasn't changed for decades. It's longer, with a slightly slanted and larger buttpad that mimics the A2 stock. The cheekweld isn't improved much by the ribs though. It's better made than the knockoffs like Bushmaster, RRA and others, mostly cosmetics like excess material removed, sharp checkering, rather minor details. The sling attachment doesn't swivel, and the area immediately in front of the release lever goes straight up, instead of the curved design on the RRA, BM, etc. Between the old and new, I'll take the new any day. But between the Vltor and the new Colt, the clear winner is the Vltor. |
| I don't dislike the RRA stock, I still have one I bought before it became popular. No problem with its quality, but compare it with a Colt and you do see subtle differences. As to the rattling, I did not notice any on either so it wasn't a qualifying point. What is though, is that RRA and BM stocks use non standard tubes, you can't put a military stock on their tubes. The BM and RRA stock I have came with purplish tubes whose quality (rather minor in some people's opinion, such as machining and finish) is noticeably inferior to the Vltor and Colt tubes. |

rlitt, you may be right, something without holes punched through along the sides is probably gonna be stronger than one with, but I don't know and most likely will not find out unless I buttstroke someone. The Colt stock does have the buttpad portion reinforced, maybe for the sling loop, let's hope some of our more knowledgeable users show up and enlighten us... BTW Eric at Vltor informed me that his tubes are NOT made by the same folks that make Colt units. I bought 2 of the Colt tubes at extravagant prices, never again [>(] |

"Plenty of people are commenting that they like the RRA over the Colt, what makes you say different? " Most of those people don't want to spend the money on the Colt. The Colt is better. The sling swivel should not be ajustable, and the RRA uses little contact pads to get it's tight fit, the little pads will soon wear and the stock will rattle. The Colt doesn't have these (if I remember correctly.) My RRA rattled more than my Colt new style M4. I replaced them both and now don't use either of them. IMO the Colt stock has a higher quality finish (low glare, non-shiny.) besides if you get a Colt/vltor tube, and you will be able to use Vltor, crane, and Colt old, new, ACR, and new style m4 stocks Get the RRA tube and you can only use two stocks on it. The RRA tube is not mil-spec. |
| Almost anything is better than the old style Colt adjustable stock. The Vltor is very nice. I never noticed any flex in it. Very tight tolerances and comfortable. I wouldn't bet my life on which one would crack first, the stock or my ememies skull on either one of them. The Magpul, maybe. For CQB shooting I think the enhanced Colt or Vltor should be fine. However, I have come to believe that the Magpul is in it's own league. There is not a stock that I have knowlege of that is MORE rigid than the Magpul. I used it prone, standing , barricade, kneeling, slung, or in any other position you could think of and it is far and away better than anything I have ever had. It locks up as rigid as a solid stock, has 8 positions of adjustment, and a cheekweld that makes ya feel all gushy inside. If you want the look, take the Colt. If you want unmatched versatility and fuction, and a very solid stock MAGPUL is the only way to go. The only problem is that it weighs a few oz more than the others and it makes me hate the feel of the other collapsables. |
