Might be old news to some but here is a pic of what colt is offering for the new rifle trials against the XM8, SCAR, XCR etc...

"Colt's contender (not present at shot show), the M-5, uses a monolitic rail/upper receiver (a la FN and XCR) and has a short-stroke piston system (a la HK416)...that protrusion in front of the magazine well is used for changing barrels quickly, the FN uses a 2 screw setup instead."

I've seen that PIC posted before, but by the looks of it Colt isn't putting up much of a fight considering  FN Herstals SCAR.

This is old news. I was wondering if Colt made any attempt to market the M5 at the SHOT show, but unfortunately it was nowhere to be seen.

If that little silver piece is a quick barrel release button it is by far the most intelligent system compared to both the XCR and SCAR

Then why did it not beat the FN for the SCAR L competition?

Personally, I dont think the military wants much of anything that looks or operates anywhere near like an M16. It just doesnt have any meat and appeal compared to, say, and XM8, SCAR or XCR. On a political level our new gun has to tell the world something about strength and technological advancements and you just dont get that with a gun that looks like something that has been around for for 40 years, but with a couple of new features

While I am not a fan of colt cause of there politics,I would have like to see them get the contract just cause they ar an american company, and you can always hold out hope that in the future a different ceo will change the policy on selling/marketing to civillians much like s&w.

What's up with these quick change barrels? Seems like a solution in search of a problem.
