Damn this gun is heavy...

I want to change the hand guard out to something lighter, but I don't have anything in particular in mind.
Colt specifically states to NOT attempt removing the hand guard, anyone know why?
Do I need any special tools to attempt it?
Anyone know what the forearm weighs?

The forearm is an aluminum tube, it's the 1" SS barrel under the handguard that makes it so heavy.

When I had my CR6724, I added a buttstock weight to balance out the gun a little better.  With optics it was one seriously heavy stick, but one of the most accurate rifles I've ever owned, stock or custom.

It looks like a one piece FF tube. And if it is, it holds the barrel onto the upper. That would be why they don't want you to remove it. If you know how and have the right tools, of course you can do it if you want.

Changing an aluminum part isn't going to make a major difference in weight.  I love my 6724 as is, and would suggest modifying a different platform if you feel the need for custom.

This was more curiosity than anything.
I honestly love the gun myself. Even if it is a heavy bastard.

Buy a completely different upper for it.  Is it a large or small hole upper?
