Gents,

Looking to pickup a new LE6920 tomorrow morning.  I'm debating between the basic model and the magpul edition (6920mp-b).  Is the magpul version worth the extra hundred and half bucks?  I really am not a huge fan of the front handguard, and I think I would just prefer to put quad rail on the basic model.  Also, and more importantly, are there any "AR-15" or "CAR-15" stampings on the receiver of this rifle?  I'm doing a NJ build, and can't seem to find much info on the stampings for legality reasons.  Thanks for the help.

YThey are marked 'M4 Carbine', and they are legal in NJ if they are made compliant (pin/weld a comp I place of flash hider, pin the stock, and cut off the evil bayonet lug).
If you are going to ditch the Magpul furniture in leu of a quad rail, then you are better off buying a standard 6920.

That's exactly the answer I was looking for.  Thanks brother.

Boy, me too. Anytime I see one of those on a guys rifle. I think to myself. Why the hell would someone do that. The only thing that comes to mind is they are real cheap.

Yup. Base model. Add your rail and a MOE stock can be had for very cheap used here in the EE. Enjoy the ride.

Or perhaps because they are light, have a heat shield, and are thin enough to allow you to wrap your hand around the barrel.

If that is what you want try the new B5 systems hand guards. They are REALLY thin.

As long as it's marked "Colt AR-15" you are GTG. I would just get the regular version. A Magpul CTR and MOE will run around $100 give or take. I prefer the M4 handguards over Magpul, plus you said you want a rail. Let me know when you come home and I'll show you how to pin your stock without fucking up your RE. Let me know if you need help with the pin/weld and bayonet lug.

You might want to pick up some of these mags. The mags come apart and you can remove the block when you are in America but you didn't hear that from me.

You are incorrect. As long as it's NOT marked 'AR-15, or CAR-15' , and made compliant, its gtg in NJ.
AR-15/CAR-15 is banned by name in this shithole state.

Does'nt NJ have a assault weapons ban of sorts? I did'nt think Colt made a ban compliant LE6920, only the older MT6400C

The Magpul MOE stuff by itself is worth around $100 for the stock, pistol grip, trigger guard, and hand guards... I'd go with it because after shooting the standard M4 furniture to shooting a Magpul furniture AR, it's so much more comfortable with the Magpul stuff...

It's not like it's a Stark pistol grip, come on... I think they are twice as good looking as the standard M4 handguards and three times more comfortable to use. At least you can add rails to them to mount the necessities like a TLR-1...  And best yet, they are lighter too. Stock M4 handguards are fucking next to worthless...

Correct, NJ does have a ban.
The 6920/6940 IS legal in NJ as long as the flash hider is replaced with a comp/brake (pinned/welded), bayonet lug removed, and the stock pinned in place.
AR-15/CAR-15 rollmarks are banned by name.

Any way you can use this

Bad enough you have to weld a brake on it, lug I could live without

Actually the only parts of NJ's ban regs that REALLY piss me off are the pinning of the collapsible stock, and the 15 round mag capacity.

that's why I was wondering if that fixed stock would work, I hate to see you have to pin it too.

Thanks for all the replies guys.  Yeah, I just ordered the LE6920 this morning. Base model.  I couldn't justify the extra money for the Magpul version knowing that I was going to rip that shit off anyways.  I thnk I'm going to throw on a troy quad rail, and pin the stock on it, and then buy the telescoping stock I want and throw her in the ol gunsafe for future use.  I hate this state with a passion, but at least I've got 4 more months in the free state of NC before I go home.

On a side note, anyone got any suggestions for a nice muzzle brake?  I'm not really into spending $150 on a battlecomp or equivalent, but I'd like to put a quality brake on it.

I've been using the gamma 556 for a break. Under $100, works well enough and looks great in the process.

Or do like I did on an older 6920. I put a VN era A1 skinny round hand guard on it. Heck, it even has heat shields in there. Just not Duals like the M4...
It also looks a fuck of a lot better than a Magpul hand guard.
But that would cost more for a real Retro hand guard, wouldn't it.
