I recently bought my Colt LE6920 and was able to shoot it 1 time. I ordered some new accessories over the weekend and hopefully they will all arive tomorrow. I already have the stock on, just waiting on the rail to come. This is a before picture on the weekend or before, I will put up an after picture of what my gun looks like. I love the gun and is highly recommended to anyone as it is a great rifle and pretty accurate. With my backup sights before I put on the scope I was shooting about 2 inch groups offhand at 100 yards. With the scope and on a ledsled shooting rest, needless to say highly accurate at 100 yards, 1 inch groups. Once I figure out what my gun likes to shootI'm sure I can get it more accurate. Hope you enjoy my project as I intend to update my progress as I get everything done for my Colt.

| Thanks for comments everyone. I have had some trouble with one dealer with a part, but my brother and I decided to make a low profile gas block out of my front site. We were finally able to put it all together. Think I may be going shooting tommorrow. Will then get some pictures of my improved Colt and some grouping pictures if we go. |

But you may have committed a sin in the eyes of some though, highlighted in red above. Either way, you made a great purchase. |

I ordered a gas block, but it hasn't come for some reason and I think it is lost in the mail system. USPS was dealing with it. It was sent out last Monday and still says its in Michigan |

Looking good man! There isn't anything wrong with cutting down a fsb. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8266/8610773877_bdeae69bcf_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8395/8686419810_9988e35e79_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8540/8685301809_d895a28263_b.jpg Spray it with some matte black bbq pit paint and your good to go. The factory fsb makes the best and most reliable low pro gas block imho. I do need to paint it, as the silver from the block is noticable as well as the gas tube. So I will be doing that this coming week. Still have to figure out this other gas block situation. I think I need some OD GREEN |

OP,
keep your Colt stock. If you want to have fun with mods, build a second rifle. Start with a 16in midlength gas barrel. Then put every accessory on that you ever imagined. Eventually, you will learn enough to know what you want. Then you can sell your stock Colt. But if you fuck up your Colt, it will always be a fucked up Colt. 16in midlength, no cuts. This is the basis for the best AR setup. Colts are the coin of the realm. they always work, and they always hold their value. If you want to improve, you need to step into the other lane and go from scratch. Or DD, or LT, or BCM. Keep your Colt til you know what you want, and you have it in duplicate. Then sell it. Just don't fuck it up. |
|
No Colt 6920 shoots 1 inch at 100 yards. If you think yours does, you haven't really tried.
Please understand, I have owned at least a half dozen Colts since 1989. Search the Molon threads. Match ammo, 10 shot groups are going to be 2 inches at best. And that's if you replace the trigger with a Geissele National Match. Colts are great!!!!! Keep it, shoot the heck out of it, learn the AR platform. But the main attributes of the Colt are stock reliability and resale value. Great tool for learning, but NOT the ultimate AR. You can learn this one of two ways: 1. Listening to people who have experience; 2. Spending lots of money. Of course, there is also self delusion. This can be very satisfying as well. |

The Colt will sit there and patiently await, sitting there as a reliable fallback option when and if you ever need it! |

Quoted: Cant sign off on those Magpul Colt's, seems to be the only Wal-Mart Colt available and yuck... Sorry I bought a bare-bones 6920 from my local Wal Mart, about 2 weeks ago. I passed on the Bushy setting next to it, as well as the 6940 available (about 3 weeks earlier) at another local store. |

Did anyone notice that the OP has already cut down his fsb and installed a Troy Alpha rail? He's a quick learner. It can be intimidating smithing your own AR in the beginning, but it's not very difficult. BTW, your shaved FSB is the nicest DIY job I've seen. I've done several myself and they all look good, but yours looks excellent. I don't have a dremel, just a DeWalt 4.5" angle grinder and lots of grinding and cut off wheels. |

Believe it or not a small fine file made all the difference in the world. Only thing I used the dremel for was polishing out the file marks. It was my first go at chopping a fsb. I'm happy it turned out nice because there is no hiding a butchered fsb with a Fortis REV lol. ETA: OP. I wouldn't worry about replacing your cut fsb with the low pro gas block you have ordered. The main reason people replace a fsb with a low pro gas block instead of cutting it down is so they can reverse it back if they want. As is you would have to buy another fsb and send it and your barrel to someone like ADCO to be properly installed. |

In the near future im gonna just mill mine down then profile the top with a 45 degree endmill and see how that looks. if it turn out good Ill post some pics and Id be happy to do one for somebody for te cost of shipping. |

| That's crazy that a lot of people are kind of upset with what I did to MY COLT. I am fine with everyone's opinion about it, but in the end I can do what I want with MY WEAPON. I am still in the process of making my own and will continue to enjoy every minute of the COLT. My gas block I have been waiting for finally arrived and it is installed. In the next few weeks my aimpoint will be ordered and figuring out if I want a QD MOUNT or just a STANDARD MOUNT? Not sure pros and cons, besides one is permanant and one is not. |

No one here is upset with what you did to YOUR COLT. They were just trying to give you good advice. You neutered a genuine Colt FSB instead of saving it in case you wanted to use it later on that barrel, congratulations. |

I doubt that genuine Colt FSB was made by God himself; he can buy another if he cares to do so. These are standard mass produced firearms, it will be ok OP. |

Sure, he can buy 40 if he wants them, but not one will be fitted to the pin holes on his barrel. Now his choices are limited because fitting a new FSB will require much more expertise than he has. My point was that since he ordered a new gas block anyway why not save the original FSB in case you decide to use it again in the future. Good luck with your new toy OP. I personally don't give a fuck what you do with it. |

| My butt isn't hurt, but some peoples are lol. Just seems like everyone thinks I did the worst thing ever to a COLT and yes there are tons and tons of COLTS, so me taking the sight off is no big deal. It's going to be a COLT no matter what I do to it. I wanted a COLT and make it my own, which I am doing. I hated the permanent front sight and now I can use the block as a back up if need be and personally I think the gun looks way better then what it did before. |
Good job, OP. I'm not one of the Colt d*ck riders that will chastize you for cutting your FSB. Who cares, I actually think you should have left the cut one on as it was pinned to mate perfectly to your barrel unlike the new set screw ones. Do exactly what you want to make that rifle yours, add and remove parts as you wish and eventually you will find you have exactly what you want. And then add some more

There isn't anything wrong with cutting down a fsb. . I maybe could see doing it to make it easier to install a FF tube / rail. What I dont get is why some do it just in order to use a scope 1-4x or aimpoint /eotech Most know the FSB doesnt get in the way . OP Congrats on your CARBINE |
