Has anybody attempted to fill the large holes & re drill to Mil Spec?
The detent hole will also need to be drilled.

What say you?

I don't have pics to show but did it to a Colt Sporter about 10 years ago. I had a bolt that was same diameter (don't remember the exact size). I tapped and used Locktite on the bolt straight through both ears then used a Dremmel with cut-off wheel on both sides of each ear. Used a small hole upper and center-bore bit to locate drill placement and finished with Testors black model paint with enough white to match the "Colt gray".

Had zero problems with any small-hole uppers I used on it totaling about 3000+ rounds and sold the rifle with the buyer aware of the mod.

However, with the easy availability of normal small-hole lowers today, I wouldn't do it again.

Thanks for the reply klaxxon.

I like the idea of using a bolt for a little steel reinforcement.

I was considering JB weld.

Living in NY, we have to play the pre ban game.

Why don't you just buy some of DPMS's steel sleeves, used to convert large hole uppers to small hole, trim them to size, and Loctite or epoxy them in?

That's what I did to small hole an SP1 lower awhile back.
