I have a colt lower receiver with the screw-in take down pin. What kind of adapter will I need to purchase in order to put a new upper on it?

If its a standard upper, you can use the same screw in pin.

Does the screw-in take down pin have screw driver slots on both sides?

Send it to ADCO and have it converted to push-pin.

yeah, if its a single sided slotted screw, its a std .250" pin,any upper goes. if its a double slotted screw its probably a .311" SP-1 and you have to use a adapter for a std. upper. some colt"s that come with the single sided pivot pin screw are drilled and ready to accept the detent spring and detent (aka low earth orbiting device). some aren't. ADCO (i believe ) can drill your upper for the spring if its not already.
