I need a clear pic of a circa 1999 or 2000 Colt M4.  In particular I need to find out the shade of gray/black of the buffer tube.  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Scott

There's probably a lot of M4 photos HERE, but who's to say when they were made?

If only I had a M4.

Is there really a way to tell when it was made?  except for contacting Colt?

Here is a flattop M4 from prior to Mar 2002 (the date the photo was uploaded to my website):

Here is another one uploaded the same day showing a fixed handled M4 (which would make it one of the real early M4s).  I'll be this one was produced during the time frame you're looking for.

Bottom is the factory tube and stock from a LE6920 made between Jan and May of 99.   I don't know what to judge it by, since all of my Colts look the same shade.   So I took it next to a LMT tube (middle) and a Vltor (top) as reference.   Hope this helps.

A fixed handle M4 would be earlier than 1999.

Ok, here is what I have pieced together by looking at photos.

A carbine before 1998----->would have a gray buffer tube with shinny black threads

Between 1999 and 2001----> a flat black buffer tube with shinny black threads.  Forrest's first pic and Kisara's 2nd pic would be correct for this.

After 2001 to present--->a uniform colored flat black buffer tube with a slight purple tint if out in sunlight.  All the new "ribbed" style colt stocks I have seen have this tube.

I have all three type of Colt buffer tubes described above plus different Colt 2 position tubes.

I will post pics of them if anybody would like to see the differences over the years.
