Why is the Colt M4 upper about twice as expensive as other uppers?

It says Colt on it.

Sorry if my question seems silly but I was offered a trade an OR94 for a NIB Colt M4 upper.  At first it didn't seem like a great deal but after some quick research I found those uppers being offerd at $900+.  Kind of freaked me out.  You can get a complete Bushmaster or RR for near that kind on money!

Colt's are certianly a high quality AR, but I would not pay any more for just the name. No way would I pay $900 for a Colt M4 upper.

I hear ya!  I just thought I'd ask the question in case there was some magic Colt voodoo I wasn't aware of...
Thanks

Part of the high prices you are seeing are because of where you are looking. There are a number of sources selling new Colt M4 uppers for under $700. Prior to the sunset you could get them for less than $600.

I have purchased several uppers from these guys KY Imports and have had good luck with them.

I gave $795 for my #6921 (14.5") M4 upper without B/BC/CH.
