I saw a few surplus M-16 magazines (30 round models) that were side marked as made by Colt and the floor plate had Colt markings along with their horse. I hadn't seen these before. Are they rare? Worth anymore than a regular mag? CSP |
| These just sound like your current run of the mill USGI Colt marked mags. You can find these on the EE. They have Colt info on the side and on the floorplate. Do they have the 33710 Cage Code on the lower side next to the date stamp also? These, along with most Colt mags are made my Okay Ind. Some people will pay a bit more for Colt mags but many on this site realize you can get other USGI or better mags for around $9 - $14 |

I have a few, and they're worth no more than an Okay mag to me. They function just fine. I've seen them for sale, and they generally cost more than Okays. I won't pay the extra price as I don't see any additional value as compared to the $10.00 each or so Okay mags that I buy. |

Since floorplates can be swapped between mags, I see no reason to get excited about a Colt marked magazine. Besides, Colt did not make them. Now there are exceptions of course, waffle mags, the 20 rounders mentioned above, and authentic (tough to prove?) Armalite mags, but provided they work correctly, all USGI mags are pretty much the same regardless of stamp. (4 weld Coopers excepted). I have 5 Colt floorplated 20's that I've had for 20 plus years, plus two new Brownells but every other mag I own is either a Cooper, Okay, Center, Adventureline, Sanchez, or Parsons, with a couple of FN's tossed in for good measure. When .44Mag.com had a special on their green followers, I updated each mag, taking the oppurtunity to clean and inspect all of them. As I did this en-mass, with only a slight attempt at continuity (I marked make on the body, mating Parsons floorplates to a Parsons body upon reassembly) I doubt that any floorplate, spring, mag body matched up in the end. With the exception of an FN mag that was questionable before, all the mags work just fine. |
