I' have a Colt pre ban with the sear block and small pivot pin.
It has the famous Colt C bolt carrier, any standard semi auto carrier will work in this. Right? I know I can have the block removed but don't want empty holes in the lower. How much of the block needs to be removed to use a full auto carrier (M16 style)? thanks |

The block would have to be flush with the top of the lower to use an M16 carrier. Yuor best bet would be to sell this to someone in a ban state and buy new. |

I don't believe pre-bans had the sear block and/or open bottomed carriers..I believe both of those features belong to post ban lowers No. so when were they used? I bought a new Colt AR in 1993 and it had that. My '94 6521 had a pinned block as well. |

Colt did things like the blocks on their own before the ban in an attempt to stop alteration that would produce full auto fire. Was not really associated with the ban. but does anybody know exactly what year they started?? In early 1989 Colt voluntarily halted civilian sales of AR-15's shortly after the Bush administration halted imports of similar weapons. In the spring of 1990 Colt introduced their new "Sporter" rifle (no bayo lug, no flash hider, and five round magazine), if memory serves my correctly the butchered bolt carrier and the added block in the lower were part of this re-introduction. |

Picked this up new in the fall of 94' just before the ban. Came with 2- 20 round mags and threaded barrel with flash hider. No lug |
