| Does Colt mark it's receivers in any way? |
|
Older upper receivers used to have unique forge markings, but current uppers are machined from the same raw forgings as supplied to most of the AR manufacturers, so there's no way to tell the difference. The only ones marked are complete factory Colts, which get a proof stamping (or used to; someone will correct me if they stopped doing this). Another way to tell is if it has the extended feedramp cuts. Only Colt uppers have them, but not all Colt uppers will have them. Generally, they only way to be SURE is to buy directly from the manufacturer in question. -Troy |

Pre-ban meaning old, or pre-ban meaning new-production with "pre-ban features"? The former you can probably figure out. The latter? Unmarked is unmarked. This might help you with the older ones, but I can assure you it isn't 100% complete or 100%correct. www.biggerhammer.net/ar15/uppers/ |

Too bad everything isn't cut and dried. There's so many variations, it'll drive you nuts. It's hard to determine what you have or want to get. Just wonder whether it matters who really makes them. Is there that much difference of the uppers between the different manufacturers? |
