I know the 6940 is colts 16'' version but do they make a 10.5'' rifle as well?

Any news on Colts piston rifle??

The 6940 is Colt's monolithic rail platform and the6933 is their 11.5" SBR. Since this is in the piston forum, you may want to know that neither are pistons, they are DI's. The 6921 i think is their 14.5" SBR IIRC. I believe the 6940 was meant to a piston design or they may of had another numerical designation but never released it.

touche sir, touche. I suppose I had a brainfart and was thinking that the 6940 was also a piston rifle. Does colt make a piston rifle as of yet? Their website is incredibly hard to maneuver...

The upcoming Colt 1020 (or LE1020) is their introduction to the gas-piston AR. It looks just like the 6940 with monolithic top rail and flip up front sight. The FSB has a knob on the front to select gas on/off and remove the piston for cleaning. However, I've haven't kept up on the production & introduction status. Last I heard, it should be releasing now.

There is a rumor that it will be available in a SBR version called the 1033. Here is a pic of a Colt 1020, I found around here somewhere.

Excellent. This is what I was looking for. I did a quick search and I haven't been able to find much else. Has anyone else got any updates on this?

I thought Colt shelved the piston indefinitely.

That's what I've been hear lately too. I have a few Colts and I was planning to buy a 1020, but I've also been looking into converting one of my 6940's to a piston setup. I will probly use CMMG's conversion.

I have a 6920 that I'm using for an 11.5" SBR build if/when my stamp shows up. I got the Osprey system for it already.

Is this a Colt Piston unit?  This showcased at the 2009 Shot Show?  So what happened to this project?

An immutable truth of the known universe: when you buy quality, you only cry once. I'm no Colt apologist, but I'm very confident in their overall quality and reliability. Now Colt has pushed the cool factor with their new SCW AR. SCW stands for 'Sub Compact Weapon' and it comes to the party with an 10.3" barrel and numerous reliability upgrades to make the small platform run correctly.
