I bought a colt Ar 15 today. Serial # is GS0095xx. Cannot find out much info on it. I have a few Questions about it.
This is an original gun upper and lower. Does it have a Chrome bore and chamber? Barrel is stamped C MP 1/7. Barrel is small under the handguard and bigger at the muzzle end of the barrel. The right side of the reciever on the mag well is flat. It does not have a push pivot pin. This one has a Screw. Is this a good reciever? Front sight base has no bayonet lug but it does have a Flash hider. Was the barrel threaded later for the FH or was this origiinal. I know this has probably been asked before But my searches come up with very little. I also would like an approximate Mfg date and known issues with this model. Thanks for any input. |

Thanks for any input. you have a sporter model, yes the barrel is chrome, it is.was a M16A2 barrel, it came with a flash hider, but the lug for the bayonet was mille doff the lower is fine. is is a SP1 lower rollmarked with the new rollmark, they used them upp before they switched to the A2 lowers ETA what does the receiver say on it? I believe you have the R6550 |

That sounds like a Government Service model ( GS ) pre-ban AR-15.
It looks like the upper should have a lug, but Colt was notorious for mixing serial numbers like GS with other features. But since the lower says Government Model, I would think it should have a lug. I have a GS serial that does not say Government Model, says something else, can't remember what though, but it does have the lug. Towards the ban years, they started taking the lugs off and started calling them 'sporter' . My guess is that is not the original upper. here is a page with specifics. http://www.biggerhammer.net/ar15/variants/ ETA: http://www.biggerhammer.net/ar15/ar15serial.html All slick side lowers ( no mag release fence) are pre-94 ( most of them pre-92 ) lowers. |

As mentioned previously, it sounds like a 6550 Gov't model.
I had one, R6550K with the factory 22 lr conversion kit to be specific, with the GS prefix, also marked as Gov't model, Colt Firearm Division, with no mag fence, large pivot pin, no bayo lug, threaded muzzle, small fcg pins. I'm no Colt aficionado, so my word may not be entirely correct. Also, Colt seemed to not be the model of consistency with making everything the same about the time these rifles were made, so anything is possible.
