I have taken my new Colt Match Target MT6601 apart to lube it up and well, to take it apart. I found the date code of 12/08 near the front sight. The stamp forward of the front sight is C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7 HBAR(I know what these mean). There is also a "G" stamped at the chamber end under the gas tube. It's definitely a "G" and not an "O". Anyone know what the "G" stands for?

Anyone know what the "G" stands for? It's probably just a letter "O" maybe got a nick in the middle of it. The letter O sometimes looks like letter C markings just indicated a chromed chamber/ bore, on older models some have the number 12 for 1/12 twist and star symbol, could be the mark they used before the letter O which they started in '89. Both my older (made during the AWB ban) and new model 6721 A3 Tactical Carbine (2009) have the O markings. Ref: Colt Retro FAQ - tacked thread link |
