| Are all Colt bolts marked MPC? I got one supposedly a Colt, but not marked with MPC, please advise, thanks! |
|
According to my reference "Black Rifle II", all Colt bolts are marked with at least a "C" (or other letter designators for other suppliers to Colt). Not all bolts have the "MP" marking (however) according to the same reference, although it's stated that all Colt bolts were magged and proof tested.
This reference is dated by 5 years so a lot could have changed since then. |

The place this is mentioned in the book says that the "C" only marked bolts were originally intended for commercial use only. I'd guess Colt was running low and grabbed the commercial line bolts to put in some LE rifles in the past few years. |

How about the bolt on the left? The bolt on the right I purchased from a reputable dealer several years ago as a "colt take-out bolt." The bolt on the left was advertised as a used colt bolt. Note the wider band below the stamp on the bolt on the left. chalked the letters to improve clarity. The letters are all vibropeened. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/howlie/bolt011.jpg My take may be wrong. I've seen hundreds if not 1,000's of Colt bolts. I've never seen any marked it an off angle, like the ones shown. Colt does has a certain pride in their product, and the reputation. Like it or not most AR's are compared to Colt for quality. 458 |
