Have Colt's collapsable stocks always had milspec buffer tubes?

I bought a "Colt" CAR stock some time ago from R-Guns. It came in an unmarked plastic bag. Hmm, seemed strange.  I didn't think too much about it at the time. Now I bought a couple M4 stocks from Tick . . . low and behold they fit on the "Colt" buffer tube. I didn't expect them to as I thought all Colt stocks had milspec tubes.

Now I'm curious if R-Guns took me for a ride? I wouldn't be too suprised from what I've seen about R-Guns since then. Fool me once . . . shame on them . . . it won't happen again.hanks,Slugger

non mil-spec stocks are larger than spec'ed...did the Tic's fit, but with some decent wobble?

Find someone with a commercial tube and see if the Colt won't slide on there...

The M4 stock fit with the same clearance as the tube it came with.

Colts are milspec, always have.

A mil-spec tube is slightly smaller then a commercial tube. As a result commercial stocks will go on a mil-spec tube, (because they are made for a larger tube) but a mil-spec stock will usually not fit on a commercial tube.

Thanks all for the intel. I got snookered by R-Guns then. Not a big supprise there. I hope they enjoyed the few extra dollars as they will be getting no more from me or anyone I know.

edited...I finally re- read the post and understood what was going on....

yup...mighta got snookered on that one.....unless someone sent you mil spec stocks by accident....

ETA2: are the stocks you ordered loose or firm.  If they are pretty loose and "rattley" then you are PROBABLY running a mil spec tube.....

the mil-spec tubes have the threads actually thicker than the tube itself. Aftermarket tubes are thicker diameter with the threads cut into that, so the threads don't stick out past the tube.
