Hey guys, are there any date codes that can help me identify my gun? The serial number on the trigger is SP246. That would seem to indicate it is from the 70's. But I can't find specific information anywhere. Does the fact that it is an A2 hbar sporter mean it is from the 80's? (According to one website)...if that's the case, why does the serial number indicate the 70's? It has a round forward assist, which also indicates it is from the 80's (again, according to a website other than this)

What about the barrel, it does not have a bayonet lug, nor a date code. It is a 1/7 CMP however.

Upper receiver? Is there a date code here?

thanks.

I'm just trying to figure out if my gun is all original, or a collection of parts. Many of them have a visible "c" on them, which is a good sign.

You have a Colt SP2. They were made in the late '80s and early '90s. There were a lot of variations with these. For example, some have forward assist, while others don't. I can't find a serial # database to give you the exact date of manufacture.

Assuming the barrel is in it's original configuration, it was made between late '89/early '90 and Sep '94.  The lack of bayonet lug is the tipoff.  If the barrel is original to the rifle, that's when the rifle was made.  Never seen any kind of date code on a Colt rifle other than on the barrels, which didn't start until sometime in the 90s.

The best thing to do to eliminate guesswork is to call Colts Mfg. factory Tel: 800-962-COLT (2658), give them your serial number and they will tell you what year your AR was made and also what was the configuration it was in when it was shipped from the factory.

Yeah, it's pretty cool. Except I forgot to write down what year my Delta Elite was made. I think Carol told me 1989.
