Could anyone tell me the time frame that Colt changed the title on the AR-15 manual from  AR-15 Comanche Sporting Rifle to AR-15 Sporter Rifle? I have not been able to find any information on this and any help would be appreciated.

Can't give you an exact date, but it was changed almost immediately as Colt discovered some other company had already named a firearm Commanche and as a result they (Colt) were in violation. Very few, if any, of the Commanche manuals ever escaped into the wild, but it would probably have been 1963 or 1964, if at all. Only one I've ever seen was the photo in The Black Rifle.

I picked up one on Ebay a few years ago, and have been unable to find (and win) another since.

There is no date on mine, like with the regular SP1 manuals.....

Thank you for the replies. A Colt AR-15 that I bought a little while back came with a Comanche manual. The rifle SN is 05XXX. Is this SN range too late for a Comanche manual?

                        Thanks,

This is discussed in Scott Duff's AR15 book including photos of all the manuals.  Can't seem to find my copy, If I remember correctly it was less than a year.
