i know most guns come with comm buffers,,, but i am biulding my lowers... so should i go with mil-spec or comm tubes??? right now i have one comm tube with a magpul CTR stock on it, i've read the comm versions dont lock as tight as the mil but i have never been able to confirm this with my own eyes. i also have 1 extra comm tube that i havent used yet. in the future i believe i am going to get a vltor emod, magpuls new ACS and probably another CTR.  any reason i should pick mil-spec over commercial for the future???

I'm guessing that you mean buffer tube?

I don't know of a stock manufacturer that doesn't make their stock in a mil spec version. In that respect you aren't limited.
Otherwise who cares if you can get what you want?

I recommend milspec buffer tubes over comm.  They are a bit thicker and stronger.

Go with mil-spec.

My experience with CTR's is that they lock tighter on mil-spec tubes.

I have seen several commercial CTRs that didn't lock as tight as their mil-spec counterpart..

but others may have had a different experience.

I have some of both, and honestly it doesn't matter

FWIW-I have both mil spec and commercial Magpul CTR stocks and both lock up nice and tight.  However, the commercial has a thicker buttpad.

yes i meant buffer tubes

so the only advantage is the mil-spec seems to be thicker than the comercial... correct?

That's not what I get from the picture at all.

Incorrect.

Read the last line of text in the graphic.

Commercial tubes are .020" thicker than milspec tubes.

Commercial tubes essentially skip a machining step to lower costs, making them thicker.

+100

Unless you just gotta be "G.I. Joe from head to toe", it just doesn't matter.
With all the commercial tubes out there, anybody that doesn't make their stock for a commercial tube is silly.

ETA: I think the commercial tubes are stronger assuming they are made of the same material. IMHO, if it was all starting over today,
"MilSpec" would be commercial. What is the point of the extra machining?

I don't think it's a big deal. I try to have the same on all my rifles so I can interchange stocks if I choose.
