Looking for some input from owners of this collapsable stock - the one with the small battery compartment. I am thinking of ordering one of these, how do you like yours?
Thanks. Camp_13 |
Magpul is certinaly the way to go on AR15.com. Kinda like levi jeans when you were in school. You certinaly dont want some one to pint and laugh at you. Magpul and CAA both make great products however Magpul has a VERY LARGE fan club on AR15.com. Its kinda hard to get a real response here. One guy, on another post, even said get a magpul stock, you will be made fun of if you get a CAA stock.

Magpul CTRs would be my first choice as I don't like the rattle in my stocks, that being said I recently went with a CAA on my latest build as an alternate when my generic stock that I ordered ended up being back ordered. I'll start by saying that it is not junk as some people will say,(same guy(s) bash all CAA products so take with a grain of salt lol) If you don't mind the rattle then it will boil down to what feels better, or appeals to you more as the quality is all on par from one manufacturer to the next. This will probably draw heat from some argumentative soul but oh well thats what makes a horse race. |

I like mine a ton. Less rattle than your generic stock and I'm guessing a little more so than a Magpul. I painted my tube and now it doesn't rattle at all. You get the battery compartment, holes for quick detach slings, and the thing is pretty strudy. Got mine with tube spring and buffer for $60 bucks. Don't know how you can beat that.
I'd say it's not the ideal option for longer barreled or front heavy rifles, but neither would any carbine type stock. |

Ita Ford vs Chevy thing.
Magpul makes a great product, however they have a cult type following here. I swear they could take a airsoft item, stamp there name on it and the bulk of the ar15.com members would say its the best new product ever. Magpul makes a great product. but to say everything else is crap is just ridicusous. Try products and make your decision. Dont just buy the popular product. There are many amazing products out there that people dont buy because they are not made by a popular well known company. |
|
to say its a step above airsoft is laughable. As I said try the products make your own desision. I assume RRA, Kinghts, Larue etc are all just a step above airsoft. Just how many products have you tried to come to this conclusion? I assume you must be a product tester and you have tested most of the CAA line? Magpul only makes a few products so testing their line would not take much time. CAA makes MANY items. To try one or two products and say is all crap just isnt right. CAA has one of the best warrantys in the industry. If it beaks you send it back and they replace it. If you are making garbage that warranty will put you out of business fast.

Are you honestly attempting to equate CAA / First Samco / Fobus with KAC, LaRue, and Magpul? Surely I am reading this wrong. CAA much more closely competes with Tapco and ATI than any company you listed. They copy and clone, often poorly, existing products, and produce them with inferior materials and poor workmanship. A lifetime warranty is irrelevant, as the vast majority that buy these items will either A) never use them to any level that would cause them to see their true quality, or B) use them, break them, and realize its shit. Instead of warrantying it, they will purchase a quality item to replace it. |

I have owned very few, but I have touched, handled, and installed several.
The stock in question, I have installed four, and shot several other carbines with them. Each and every one was poorly made, and had a loose fit on the buffer tube. The battery doors fit poorly, and failed to stay closed. One would absolutely not close. They are very heavy, and the cheek weld sucks. Their rail systems are atrocious, offering out of spec rails, and poor fit. These, too, I have installed..and often uninstalled shortly thereafter. Their G27 isnt a bad grip for those with big hands, and who like grooves. Ive put quite a few of these one, and they work pretty well. Their UPG grip is nothing more than a shitty copy of the MIAD. I actually like their stock saddle, and run one personally. Even these, however, need modification to work. Their mag couplers arent bad at all, if you like that sort of thing. I tend not to buy items that I think are shit, just in an effort to test them. I do my research before hand, and buy the item which I feel offers the best value. Rarely is that an item that offers the cheapest price. |

The fit is no different than RRA, bushmaster and many other "HIGH QUALITY" stocks. I have had one on my rifle for years with no battery door issues. Also with the warranty if a crap one gets by where the door wont close, return it to CAA and they will replace it. As for the weight, add battery storage and a but pad to any stock and it will be right up there with the CAA stock. Also the battery storage and rail section are removable if you dont use them, that will cut down on the weight. as for the cheek weld, how it is different from a RRA or magpul? Their rail systems are atrocious.
I have sold around 20 of these with not a single complaint and many return customers. They are currently in use all over the word with different military and LE. Their G27 isnt a bad grip for those with big hands, and who like grooves. Ive put quite a few of these one, and they work pretty well.
They work well but still are compared to airsoft? Do they break, are they garbage? Doesnt the great magpul grip have grooves? Their UPG grip is nothing more than a shitty copy of the MIAD.
And its shitty because magpul made it first? This copy idea is just stupid. Maybe Magpul should be slammed because Walther did this first on their P99, YEARS AGO.. Shame on Magpul for bringing the idea to our ARs. I have sold 100s of these since they came out with no complaints I actually like their stock saddle, and run one personally. Even these, however, need modification to work.
Once again its good but its compared to a airsoft part? You sure you want a shitty airsoft part on your rifle? What mods were needed? I have never heard of any modes being needed and I have sold 100s of these. Their mag couplers arent bad at all, if you like that sort of thing.
Are not bad? They are currently under contact from the US Army so they must not be total junk. Im not here to slam Magpul or patrol120, Magpul makes some great parts, however I am sick and tired of people stating something is shit when it isnt even close. Based on all your comments and testing above it doesnt actually sound like CAA is shit at all. It just sounds like you have found something you like better. CAA makes great equiptment that is in use all over the world. I have personaly mailed around 75 of the CAA stocks to our troops in Iraq. If the stocks were crap, I assume or troops I have sold them to over seas would let me know. As I stated before, Magpul has a cult following on these boads and for good reason. Just know that when Magpul comes up over another product people here will ALWAYS say get the magpul product. Ask what stock to get, everyone will say get a Magpul, ask about mags, magpul, ask about a grip, Magpul. You wont really get a fair response on AR15.com. As I stated before someone on AR15.com even said you would be laughed at if you had a CAA item on your rifle. |
|
You think what you want, brother, but CAA makes shitty AR parts in general, Fobus makes even shittier holsters, its the same bunch. The fact that millions upon millions are sold and not returned means nothing...
To even insinuate that they, as a company, are anywhere close to the same quality asMagpul, LaRue, or KAC is completely ludicrous. I do think they are a better option than cheap airsoft ripoffs, an companies such as TAPCO and ATI, but thats where it ends. If CAA suits your needs, then thats great.I simply dont see the point. |
just kidding lol, any hoots merry Christmas, remember we're just lucky we live in a place where we can debate this stuff!!!

I have a CAA CBS and it works fine for me , I like it , feels good works good never given me any trouble at all. Ive had many ppl handle it and shoot with it, Ive never had any one complain. Every person that has used it liked it. so..
I do take very good care of my stuff, very good care. I dont abuse my weapons. so I dont think that it will break any time soon. And for the money it was a good deal for me. |

If you think the Fobus is quality kit, the CAA may be right up your alley. I, personally, wouldnt carry my ink pen in a Fobus holster.
Just for your info, the Magpul is a vastly superior piece of equipment. The price difference is due to quality, good shit and cheap, and cheap shit aint good. |

My buddy was going to build a top of the line AR with all the best parts and even wanted to use the CAA CBS stock because he liked the one on my rifle so much. I have had zero issues with anything on that stock and I am almost overwhelmed by how good it is for the price. Lets face it, the parts that CAA makes are on par if not better than the stock stuff that comes on an AR. Magpul makes great stuff, but the main reason people buy their products is because they look better in most cases.
CAA is NOT by any means a "step above airsoft". They are definitely not at the top of the list and I believe they belong somewhere in the middle overall. I run a Bushnell Banner scope, ADM Recon mount, MI BUIS, RRA/Wilson barrel, YHM lightweight rail, WOA upper, BCM BCG, Superior Arms lower, DPMS trigger, CAA CBS buttstock, Tango Down Battle grip, Streamlight TLR-1 and Magpul mags and XTM covers. I have had no issues with any of these. Actually if I could name one TINY issue, it's that there is a small tear in the plastic of one of the Magpul rail covers where it secures to the rail. There is crap out there, but these companies are definitely not them, but I'm sure all of them also produce a product or two that aren't perfect. |

I just bought the CBS stock and cheek weld piece to replace the standard one I had, and being a newb to the world of ar15's, I'd have to say that I'm really not impressed with the stock in general. Now, I haven't had a chance to actually fire my rifle with the new stock, but just feeling it now, it feels different, there's most certainly a rattle in the stock that didn't exist before, and that's disturbing. I'm considering putting back on the standard stock and sending back the CBS stock and getting a Magpul stock after reading this forum. What I haven't seen addressed however, that I would like addressed, if it's possible by anyone with any experience, is if the CBS stock's rattle that seems to be a constant complaint, a problem in accuracy or functionality? or is this purely a cosmetic thing? Because granted, the Magpul stocks look very nice, and if that "rattle" is eliminated in the Magpul, and that relates to provable performance improvement that would be all I need to be dissuaded from keeping the CBS..
All in all so far on this thread, it seems like the ol GLOCK vs XD debate from my perspective.. as in, and endless battle of people defending either to the death.. I'd like to see hard facts on how these different stocks perform if it's available! Cheers |
