Saw question similar to this in the past couple of weeks, but could not locate it in spite of a good search.

Anyhow, I have a few goals for my latest 14.5 in barrel build.
1. Lightweight
2. Accuracy (specifically acheived by pushing the front sight posts out as far as possible).
3. Not wanting to see any barrel beyond just the comp sticking out of the handguard.

These goals have pushed me to want a 15in handguard.  The question for the group is how bad a beating will the handguard take (looking at the MI 15in Keymod) if some, or the majority of the comp "vents" exit into into the far end of that handguard?  Right now I own both a LANTAC Dragon and an VG6 Epsilon. Will the venting slowly destroy the handguard, or just remove the finish, which I suppose I could handle.  Also, might the slightly obstructed venting disrupt the compensation effects?

Thanks, and sorry, not pics at this monment.

I wouldn't put a brake inside any handguard.  Unless its like the Noveske Kx3.  Its not a good idea but its your gun.

This could happen.

if you are using Aluminium handgaurds, vented gas CAN and WILL cause it to be damaged like teh above post mention. if you are using a STEEL handguard, you are fine (but seriously, how many steel free float handgaurds are there)

KX3
KX5
Levang
Claymore
Kaw Valley

and similar are the only ones I would put inside a handguard.

Some time of Krink brake or linear comp.

Unless you throw on a AAC or YHM suppressor mount, then you can add a Simplistic Shooting Solutions brake shield.

That's why I love this forum!  I will scratch this bad idea off the list!
