I don't know about you guys, but I kind of get tired of reading the standard "try it yourself" response to questions because I want to read some expert opinions! [Tongue firmly in cheek.] Well, I finally looked through a Compact ACOG (TA44-2; 1.5x?) on an AR with carry handle and I'm convinced I need, err want one ... two eye open sighting was neat (BAC?), amber triangle was easily visualized and the eye relief was no problem. To anyone interested in a full-size ACOG or Compact ACOG, I recommend hitting your local Trijicon dealer and see for yourself! However, be careful if you have your credit card or check book with you. I wish I could say which model I want (TA47-2; 2x or TA50-2; 3x) ... but at least I know I want a Compact ACOG! I'm leaning towards the longer eye relief TA47-2; 2x. Any last minute recommendations before I look for something in stock? |

Or you could try www.arizonagunrunners.com They don't have them listed on their website but they do have them. I looked everywhere for a TA50R-4, or a TA47R-4 and no one had them except arizonagunrunners. I talked directly with the owner and worked out a deal. Great guy if you ask me. So is Donnie from Sableco. for that matter, but I don't like waiting. James |

I took one of Sableco's last TA44R-2 units this AM. I'm part stoked and part remorseful. To be honest, I wanted more magnification than 1.5x, but worried more about the Trijicon's supply / demand and not enough eye relief. The 2x seemed to fit the bill, but Sableco was out with no firm idea of when they'd get another. Besides, it's only .5x I'm worried about. Without knowing what the 2x looks like, will I miss it?! Tell me I'll love it! You're a support group, right?! Regardless, there's got to be a nice market for slightly used never fired Compact ACOGs. What's fair for used? |

JohnnyRad, I too am part stoked and part remorseful. I should be getting my TA50R-4 3x24 red crosshair ACOG. I wanted the most magnification I could get but now I am thinking I should have gotten the 2x because of the eye relief issue. If you have been following the other posts in this forum about the compacts you will know what I am talking about. Did you happen to call Arizonagunrunners to see what they had in stock? I still might trade it for a 2x if they have any in stock but I have to actually check it out for myself first. Oh yea, support, misery loves company right? I am sure you will love it as I am sure I will love mine. I do see the supply of these being a problem in the near furture because I had a hell of a time tracking down the one I got. James BTW, how are you gonna mount it? |
|
JohnnyRad, Arizonagunrunners has them listed on their website for $712.50 but I got him to match SableCo. price of $590.00. He did it so quickly and easily that I should have offered lower but I feel I got a fair deal. I have seen used, slightly used, LNIB, NIB etc. Compact ACOGS go for $400.00-$500.00 on equipment exchange. If you are going to sell it and haven't used it or mounted it, I would ask what you paid. These are getting scarce and $590.00 isn't that bad of a deal for a brand new one. James |

Rec'd my Compact ACOG today! I just hope the weather holds out this weekend for some range time. Glad to see I can still use the iron sights. I've still got to zero my iron sights to 50yds ... sould I also zero the sight to the same distance? If I remove the optic, will it re-zero? |
| If you remove the carry handle with the scope attached, it should hold zero when you reattach it. However, if you remove the ACOG from the carry handle, then I would definitely reconfirm its zero as soon as possible. I've found my TA31 to be very sensitive to being taken off the CH. |

Quoted: I've still got to zero my iron sights to 50yds ... sould I also zero the sight to the same distance? If I remove the optic, will it re-zero? For mounting on the carry handle: Because it's higher than the irons you need to increase the range to achieve the flattest trajectory, 75 yards is what's been considered to work the best. Flattop with TA51 or TA60: 50yds. will work fine. If you start using riser mounts like the ARMS #38 along with TA51/60 or ARMS #19acog/19s then you need to eyeball how much higher the reticle is above the irons and guess at the range (60-75yds.) Yes it will re-zero if removed and then re-installed. |

After reading this thread, I call Arizona gun gunners and they had the TA50-2 in stock. I called Sable yesterday and they only had in stock a TA-44 and TA-11. The guy that ansewered the phone had no problem reducing the price. I offered him $20 more than Sable because he said the prices have been increased by the manufacturer. I think $600 is still a really good price. At a gunshow I went to last weekend, they were $650 plus sales tax. I could not make up my mind between the TA-47 and TA-50 but knew I wanted a triangle. With the way the military is buying all of these up right now, I feel very luck to be able to get what I wanted without waiting 3 months. The guy I talked to which sounded like he was probably the owner, asked me to post that he has these in stock and will sell them reasonably after I told him that I had heard of this company on a forum. |

I guess the law of supply and demand got the best of me. I did not realize that the MSRP is $589.95, Sable sells it for $580.00 and I paid $600.00. The $10.05 if paid more than the MSRP is emotionally painful but is immaterial considering the shipping cost/sales tax and other variables. Thanks for the link to the MSRP because I did not realize the deal I thought I was getting was not completely true. As is the case with many others, it is not the actual cost paid as much as the precieved bargin that make me sleep better at night. However, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Edited: I just noticed that the link provided for the $589.95 price is SWFA price and not necessarily the MSRP. I wonder if they are in stock because this is a higher price than the SABLE price but they are not in stock. |

Glenn: Don't kick yourself. Sableco and other distributors sell the comp ACOGs (and other ACOGs as well) for FAR below MSRP. Go the Trijicon site, or take a look at Trijicon's pricing menu for your scope. IIRC (my materials are at home and I'm still at work), Trijicon MSRPs its comp ACOGS at $950. You read that right. You paid almost right at market price and got what you wanted (needed?) at a time of low supply. You should be happy. FWIW |
