Ok, I am still debating my optic purchase.  I am leaning towards a ACOG.  I have found a few used ones including a TA01, hopefully a TA01nsn and now a Compact TA50-4.  Alot of people have had good things to say about the BAC function which the TA01 doesn't have, oh well just more to think about.

My question is what mount to use for the Compact?  I figure I would probably use the TA51 but it looks kinda big.  Then there is the new ACOG ARMS 19AS or whatever.  I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of it though.  I also looked on Trijicons website and found the TA60 which is like the TA51 except smaller with only one mounting hole.  This looks to be the ticket but their price is 100.00.  Anyone know where I can get one for cheaper?

Also what do you think about the TA50?

thanks,
James

Don't mean to sound like your psychiatrist, but what do YOU think about the TA50?  Trijicon's reputation is good across-the-board, so the scope itself isn't the question, but how you feel about it.

I'm getting one.  I like the sight picture and I like the BAC.

I wouldn't mind knowing the price you were quoted for the TA50-4 you're looking at.  I'm sure pre-owned is far cheaper than new, depending on the age of the scope.

I'm also getting a 19ACOG-S for it.  The mount was made for the scope; need I say more?  Don't know about the TA60.

Since you do sound like my psychiatrist (spelling?) I have some more issues I would like to talk about if you think you can help[:D]

Basically I am an indecisive SOB.  I have narrowed it down to the ACOG but I am torn between the precision of the TA01 and TA01nsn and the BAC feature of the TA50.  I was basically wanted to know how someone with the TA50 like shooting it at around 100-300 yards.

The TA50 I am looking at is almost brand new, 6 months old and has never been mounted.  The price is 489.00.  100 below what I could get a new one for at SWFA.  I could also get the TA01 there for 639.00 and I am working on another deal with a boardmember for his TA01nsn.  Not really sure what I want so whatever is the best deal I will get, I am sure I will like either.

How do you post pictures and I will post a pic of the TA60?

I had the TA50-4 and the TA60 mount.  Nice little scope.  The mount is perfect.  Great height.  The only problem is that eye relief is short.

Imposter, any comments of CQB distances and also distances of 100-300 yards with the TA50?  I have read about the BAC feature but I still cannot imagine how it works.  Guess you have to try it to see huh?

I had the scope on my 20", and it would focus on objects just about touching the edge of the barrel.  The little glowing crosshairs worked great at fast and close work, while also being good for longer shots.  At only 3x, this is no target scope and I did not find that it really improved my group sizes much, but I could ID targets better.  It is a very bright and clear little scope.

The BAC works great.  If you really worked with it, I think you would be almost as fast as a dot sight with greater precision.

The only downside I saw to it was the limited eye relief.  If you can get your nose to the carry handle that is probably close enough, but even a little closer than that would be even better.  This was with an ARMS#40 mounted.  You could ditch the #40 or grind a little bit of material off of the mount to move the scope back a little bit.

The TA51 mount is designed for the full size ACOGS, the TA60 is taller, and the correct height for the compacts.  The #19 & #19-S ACOG mounts are in between. If you get down hard you may find the #19-S okay for a compact but for many it will be too low.
