Is the 1.5X ACOG in the same league as the Aimpoint for fast, close-in shooting?

I guess it depends on you.

I've used a 1.5x acog mounted on a LW carbine, and during both eyes open I could get the reticle to impose on my normal vision, so it was "sort of" like an aimpoint. The only problem for me was the reticle image on the unmagnified vision was slightly off POA than the reticle through the scope. It occurs to certain degrees depending on your eyes. Some people are lucky enough that they have no shift at all and can use the reticle imposed on normal vision for cqb then switch to magnified.

Also I paid $350 for it in 2000 on the EE (when they retailed for about 450-500ish). Something to make you cry.

I've never used an Aimpoint while firing, but I've looked through a couple while mounted on a rifle at a gunshow and to me target acquisition was much faster than the acog.

I have never understood the 1.5X optic....what you see at 100 yards is like seeing it is at 75 yards....so I do not see the $ for a 1.5, when you can get an Aimpoint and mount for half of a 1.5 ACOG.

YES  I'll never go back to a battery powered optic!

I have an Aimpoint on my lightweight carbine and like it a lot. I'm building a second lightweight, and was undecided if it would get an Eotech or a 1.5X ACOG (no point in getting a second Aimpoint- variety, eh?). I also have a TA31F on another rifle and like it.

I was just wondering if the 3.6" of eye relief on the TA44 lets it do good at close in shooting as far as head positioning and aquiring the target. It would have the edge over the Aimpoint in distance shooting out to the 300m max range I expect the carbine to be useful to. I had an AUG, and its 1.5X magnification is more useful that you might think if you have never tried looking through one.

Eye relief isn't an issue with the 1.5X and 2X Compacts.  I am currently running the 2X and it's as fast as an EOTech or Aimpoint IMO.
