[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Compensator timing?

Could some one explain to me how to properly "time" and "index" an A2 compensator and are there any issues with an improperly indexed compensator?

"Per TM"

Hand check compensator for looseness on barrel. The
third (middle) slot must be straight up at top dead center
(TDC). The alignment may vary as much as one half the
width of the slot either direction.
