Hey guys- my parents are getting me an AR-15 for Christmas.  I was going to get the DTI Rifle Kit from my dad and a Spikes stripped lower from my mom (they are split up), but asking $495 from one and $100 from the other doesn't seem very fair.  In a continuing effort to figure out a way to 'even out' the cost between the two, I'm wondering of you guys can recommend a complete upper and complete lower (stock and all) that will equal about $600-650.

Hope you enjoyed the little life story lol, thanks for any suggestions!

I'm sure a gift certificate or two could be arranged.

Are you looking for each party to spend $600 or a combined total from both parties of $600?

As for a $300 Visa gift card from both.  Problem solved!

600-650, as in 300-325 from each.  And I may do that, seems like a feasible option.

I would go the gift card route or just ask for the lower from one parent and a few hundred dollars then money from the other.

Scratch the gift card idea, looks like I'm reviving this.  Apparently gift cards aren't "in the spirit of Christmas".  I can find a complete upper but any suggestions on a complete lower assembly, stock and all, for about $300-350?

Bravo Company "blem" lowers are $270 with an M4 stock or $300 with a Vltor Modstock. They're very high quality lowers.

But you should spend more money on the upper than the lower.

How would you rate these four lowers based on what you get per dollar, 1 being best and 4 worst?

And these two uppers (or any other suggestions, I know the Spikes is probably above my price range but I can provide both links and see which I end up with):

And lastly, and of the complete lowers will bolt right up to those complete uppers and be ready to fire right?

I rated my opinions in red. Also, yes, the complete lowers will mate to the complete uppers and be ready to fire.

Can you save up some money between now and Christmas to put up? You would have to put up about $200 to get the BCM upper.

A)  BCM standard 16" upper + BCG & CH = $533.95 shipped
B)  BCM blem lower group with M4 stock + magpul rear sight = $337.95 shipped plus FFL transfer fee (varies from free to $50)

If you get the BCM, I have Mid length tapered handguards I will give you.

Also remember that you'll need a rear sight, mags, and ammo before you can shoot it.
Just something to keep in mind.

I'd also recomend a .22 conversion unit, as it will pay for itself before you shoot 1,000rds of .22lr.
Great for getting sight picture/trigger pull/breathing down pat, without the cost of 5.56mm ammo.

With a .22 conversion unit, is it hard to swap back and forth between .22 and .223? And how much is it?

it is easy, just swap out the BCG with a .22 one and use a different mag.

I have an extra one for sale if you want one. shoot me an email if interested

So the barrell or nothing else has to be swapped out?  And how long does the switch from one to the other generally take?  I'll likely go this route, sounds great.

gift cards = not Christmas
AR15 = Christmas

make it a game and play on their emotions. tell them the one that spends more loves you more and go from there.

Hahaha.  That's hilarious.  If I'm going to be having one spend $500+, I may just ask for the $465 DTI Rifle Kit from one and then the  Spikes Tactical stripped lower + .22 Conversion and maybe + BUIS as well.

So basically, swapping in the .22 Conversion doesn't take much longer than switching out the mag?  That's awesome.  I think i just officially fell in love with the AR, as opposed to it just being the ultimate toy.

That's pretty much how easy it is.
Pull the rear pin, break it open, pull the charging handle out about two inches, pull your BCG, drop in the .22 assembly, close, push the pin back in.
Takes longer to tell someone how to do it than it does to do it.
