I've been out of the loop on ARs for a few years now but am getting back into it.  I want to purchase a complete upper to put on my Colt lower.  A few years back I had heard good reviews on RRA, and I recall their prices being fair.  I'm essentially asking who's making a quality complete upper today.

Thanks,

Jim

Colt, but they're kinda pricey. From there I would go with LMT or Bravo Company. If I was buying a less expensive upper I might get it without the bolt and carrier and get a LMT or Denny's Super Duty bolt/carrier.

I buy pretty much everything (except lowers) from these two guys.

Colt, LMT, Sabre.  I have (at least) one of each and they're all very good.  I must admit the Sabre middy is really growing on me.

First off, I'd like to thank all who took the time to respond.

I did neglect to mention what type of upper I'm looking for.  I'm thinking about a 16" lightweight barrel set-up, with short (M4/CAR) handguards.  I noticed that many of you mentioned LMT, and I've always heard excellent things about them.  Some of you mentioned Colt.  It has been my understanding that Colt sells only component parts and does not sell complete uppers.  Hence, any complete Colt upper must have been assembled by someone other than Colt.  Is this correct?  For those of you who recommended Colt, is Colt really any better than others, or is it just a trusted name?

Happy Shootin' ......

Not really true. There are a few complete rifle dealers who find it more profitable to part out the complete uppers and lowers and sell them as separate complete units.

I've owned more than a dozen Colts at one time or another, and ALL of them functioned 100%.   This is both slow bench fire and hard-n-fast duty training.  A lot were franken Colts w/ 6920 uppers on preban lowers.  Most of mines now are complete 6920s.  If I were you I'd stick with all Colt.  But then again I'm biased.   Colts may not look as pretty as the others but they BANG everytime!

Barrel quality and accuracy wise LMT, Bravo Company USA or CMMG are all better than the COLT suggestions given above, (from one who actually wasted $350 on an orginal Colt M4 barrel that couldn't hold a candle to the accuracy of the 3 suggestions given).

I know several of you have mentioned the accuracy of certain barrels, and I appreciate that, but my bigger priority is reliability.  This isn't going to be a target gun.

There was mention that it is possible to purchase Colt factory assembled uppers.  Can someone recommend a retailer for this?

Thanks
