I am looking to upgrade and change up my first ar a little (this).  It is a flat top that I have a riser and scope mounted too.  A crappy scope that I am looking to replace with a Vortex.   I am looking to drop the scope off the riser so the front sight post needs to go.  I also want to put a bipod on this rifle.

I am cant decide it I should go ahead and free float the rifle and change out the sight post (I would have to paint it or get new furniture) or just chop the post and put on a rail on the hand guard for a bipod?

I have shot alot of pigs and coyotes over the years with this rifle and like the look of the furniture set.  I dont do much shooting past 250yds where I hunt and have never really had an issue with accuracy.

What say the hive?

First off, you don't need to cut the front post, it won't interfere with the optic no matter what riser (or lack of) it's on.

As far as a free-float goes, you could get a cheap tube and paint it, but I'd spring for a VTAC that is configurable (i.e. you can add rails to it).

I put the riser on because you could see a fuzz from looking through the scope, the riser and rings put me over the post but cheek weld suffers.  I am using a 4-12 power scope.
