| The "original" AR's came with sling mounts on the sight post, and stock. But now it seems like most slings are mounted off to one side or the other. Seems like there has been a change.....is the old way still ok? Or are guys just getting fancy with all the new gear available? If it's still ok, is best to use some sort of clips, or just strap it on. |

If it's still ok, is best to use some sort of clips, or just strap it on. The sling mounts on the M16 are designed for an older style of "over the shoulder" carry and for using the "hasty sling" method of stabilization while firing, both of which have lost a lot of popularity in the last twenty or so years for a variety of reasons. The top/side slings reflect a larger focus on "patrolling" and "multi-tasking" and non-linear battlefield environments where your weapon is kept at a "low ready" for use at any possible moment. ~Augee |

I can understand the advantages in the battlefield. So when using the sling to get to and from my target shooting area, the "over the shoulder" carry would work just fine. Guess I sort of like the retro look too! Any good sources for the old military style slings? |
