| So I have a Eotech EXPS-3 and I appreciate the larger field of view, but Im beginning to see the costs of swapping CR123s adding up. Now I don't want to make this into a battle of which one is better Aimpoint vs Eotech. I am just wondering if there are any users who have made the switch or own both and would like to get their feedback on any issues adapting to the change, field of view and target acquisition speed. Thanks! |

My first optic was an EOTech XPS 2-0. I quite enjoyed it. My 2nd optic was an Aimpoint T-1 2MOA. I made the switch due to battery life, durability, and light weight. My 3rd optic that I just bought is the Aimpoint T-2. I think it's safe to say I'll be only getting Aimpoints from here on out.
My Aimpoint has been turned on for around a year so far. No issues with battery. I am truly converted at this point. ETA: I feel I can get on target just as fast as with the EOTech. To me the field of view difference is negligible when shooting with both eyes open as the optic is so small I barely notice it. When I'm running and gunning fast it almost feels like a floating dot to me that I just snap on target. It's hard to explain but it didn't take much time to adjust for me. I was comfortable with it after the first or second course I shot with it. |

The real question is are you able to look through the small Aimpoint tube with both eyes open?
The not so real question is how could you be going through so many batteries that the optic is cost prohibitive? 123s are what, $1.50? That's something like $22 for a year if you could even leave it running continuously. |
|
I had the Aimpoint Micro H-1 and I found the smaller window was harder to see through and it had a greenish tint that I didn't like either.
I've never tried EoTEchs, but I have an Aimpoint CompC3 and Pro (only difference is in the name I believe) on each of my AR's and am completely satisfied. I actually bought the aluminum C-More Railway sight, which was awesome, small and very light, but battery life sucked so I sent it back. |

I have 2 Eotechs and I run them on the highest setting and I seem to only get about 3 months out of these tenergy cr123 and my local radio shack sells a 2pak for 9 bucks. I dont know if its my bad eyes but even with the highest setting, the dot is hard to spot when its bright outside. I should've clarified that I project the additional costs of battery to equal a aimpoint micro t-2. Eotech EXP-3 I picked up from brownells at 629. I found the aimpoint micro t-2 for 679 OTD. so I feel like I should look at the aimpoint micro t-2 for its claimed 50,000 hour battery life. |

If you've got it set to the highest setting and the reticle is still washing out in the daytime, it sounds like you have a delamination or nitrogen purge issue with the Eotech. A properly functioning Eotech with a fresh battery on the highest brightness setting should be eyeball burning bright, even on a bright sunny day. I'd send it in for Eotech to take a look at. |

Like - you should be able to see the reticle against a polar bear standing eclipsed by the sun on a sand dune in the middle of the sahara at noon bright. |

Thanks! Eotech is more forgiving of head position from awkward shooting angles because larger FOV. Aimpoint doesn't break. Not trying to make this a battle, but I've owned both, and my Eotech had to go back to L3 while none of my AP's have. At night the bloom/larger reticle seems to wash out more of the target with the Eotech (YMMV, for sure, here) T2 feels noticeably lighter. |

Do it. The Aimpoint IS better than an EO. IMO by a million FOV doesn't really matter shooting with both eyes open. Yes, it does. Here is why: You are imagining FOV from the POV of your head centered behind the optic, and to you, FOV means "area visible", basically. To me, I imagine shooting under or over or around a vehicle, and my head might not be 100% perfectly positioned behind my optic. My idea of FOV is "the size of the area I have to work with, within which I can see my reticle, AND my target. With tube-optics, this is called "an eyebox". I think people confuse "eyebox" and "FOV" in concept, when describing 1X optics. |

Correct, so the thought of shooting from unconventional positions always gives me second thoughts about just running an Aimpoint PRO, however the at-2 on a 1/3 BOBRO mount is such a sweet set up I wouldn't change to anything else. |

I own both and prefer the eotech reticle, but I have a aimpoint on my go to rifle because I never cut it off. To me the eotech is easier to shoot at longer distances. If I could leave the eotech on running continuous that would be my choice, but I can't so T1 it is. I couldn't really tell you which to buy because they both have their pros and cons. I can only tell you that I would trust both no matter what.
I have a ton of devices that use cr123s you should really start buying your batteries in bulk, it'll save you a ton of hassle. |

Aimpoint is more reliable and can be left on and t1 and t2 are lighter. Pick your poison. Fwiw, most of the door kickers and ussocom I know are using eotechs or 1-6x variables. Except LAV. He licks the hand that feeds him. It's not a dirty hand either though in this case. Again...pick your poison. I view the eotech as a pure assaulter optic. The Aimpoint has more utility as maybe a patrol or hd optic. |

My eotech will go bright enough that I could probably aim it at the sun and still put down accurate fire..... I prefer the eotech for actually shooting. The aim point is better at standing by. I have the 2 AA eotech and it's been good for many years (I think I've had it for 8 now?) I'd buy it again. Probably go with a xps version though. (I've used aim points too. comp ML3 IIRC. was a good optic, but the eotech reticle blows the aim point out of the water. aim point's run-time is impressive though) |

Rechargeables often have a lower amp hour rating though, so be prepared to swap them out more regularly. |

| I started with an Aimpoint and loved it. My 2nd AR has an EOTech and I find I like using it better. I did a carbine class and started with the EOTech. towards the end I switched to the Aimpoint and it slowed me down because of the smaller tube/window. I keep the Aimpont on my HD gun because I can leave the dot on without killing battery life. Just grab and go if needed. |
