Scoured the net for days, and came up with dick. Perhaps my search-fu is weak...

I have the M4 mounted to my duty rifle. I'm sick of expensive batteries & bulbs...

Any ideas?

I don't think thats been done yet. The place to check is www.candlepowerforums.com. If they don't know how to do it, it probably can't be done.

There is a company called CREE. If you are a man who likes LEDs, then you already know. CREE makes the 6v LED, known as the P4. Now the P4 is a bulb, not a flash light. However, many companies have begun to install it in flashlights. I have an Ultra Fire P4. It is a CHINA Surefire nock off yes. But, it is brighter than anyone else’s light on the whole department. The only light that I have seen brighter is my TRL2, and it is only slightly brighter.

Anyways, you can find a direct replacement bulb on EBay. Yes, it sounds lame to those who love their name brand stuff, but I promise you this is the real deal. This company did it before Streamlight, and Surefire.

Here is a link to a current auction. P.S. my stuff from CHINA has been known to arrive before my US shipped items.

Not sure what brand that one is, but it was the first one I saw. Good Luck man.

Change your light. G2 or 6P (60-120L) on two battries 1/2-1 hr run time. Go to a LED arond 85L and a ton of run time, add an A19 and new P90 or P91 bulb and you get (105-200L) three battries 1/2-1 hr run time but tons of throw and flood. These are options to your M4. You would be better to add a new light than waste you money on some poorly made china LED junk. Stay with Surefire and build you light system to meet your needs. All the best.

Although SF seems to have dropped them from their web site and catalog, you could try finding a KL6 LED bezel.  Run time using the M4 body and four primary cells should be about 3 or 4 hours IIRC.  I have a pair of L6's I really like, and a KL6 fitted onto an M971 weapon light.

For a rechargeable option using the M4 body you would need to see which cells fit, I'm thinking the number designation would be 17650 (or 17670?), but I don't use that size myself so am unsure about the exact size needed.  I use an aftermarket body which takes a pair of 18650 cells which are too large in diameter to fit a stock M4 but have much higher capacity and yield longer run times than the 17xxx cells.  "Guilt free lumens" are the way to go.  HTH.

Thanks for the replies, folks!

I may be up shit creek - for the moment... on candlepowerforums.com there is a M4 "tower conversion" but it's a do-it-yersef project... Aaaaaaaaaaand, since this would be for a duty rifle, I'm not gonna F with it...

I DID find a ridiculously high-powered aftermarket bulb from Lighthound - 550 lumen & a ~35min runtime... Hmmm...

I told Boltgun that I have enough Surefire legos laying about to make a 9v-12v power supply with a p60/p90 head... and the new Q5 LED drop ins are running ~220lm.

-I just might end up going that route instead.
