My dad has an A2, and after he saw the flat top design of the AR I just recently built, he fell in love, as he hates the handle of the A2.  I would like to get a him a flat top upper for either Christmas or his birthday in January.  My question is, will everything (barrel, BCG, etc.) fit in the new upper without any hiccups?

if you don't know what you're doing this could not end well

i've always been hesitant to do any barrel work without experience.  might buy the upper and take it to a gunsmith in your area.

If he can read the tacked thread on building uppers and follow the instructions, its not a problem

PK Firearms has RRA flat top upper receivers w/o M4 feedramps for $89.  I've used a couple to convert A2 uppers to flat tops.  Everything will slide right over to the new receiver.

If you built one flat top another won't be a problem.  

Just buy the parts and help him do it.

It will mean more to him than that tie you got him last year

As mentioned, make sure you do not get an upper with M4 feed ramps cut in it.  Other than that there are no real concerns.  If you've built one you are certainly capable of doing this.
